Getting the Height Right

Building heights are a sensitive and challenging issue for communities, especially when developing a waterfront.

What we develop today is not only for now but for generations to come. And because we are listening to the community, different options are being explored.

The current Eastside Precinct Structure Plan incorporates a combination of heights which balance both the views and the feeling of openness. Some buildings are planned to be only a few storeys high and may include a single taller 'icon' element.

Others use height in fresh and innovative ways. The plan includes three and four storey developments that would face south-east down the inlet and front the Eastside Wharf, where two levels have been included to create accessible steps down to the water, making activities such as fishing and mooring of small boats easier than ever.

Open Spaces, Open Possibilities

The Eastside Precinct will give the entire community unrestricted access to the water, public plazas to enjoy, new opportunities to be part of Bunbury's future and, of course, views everywhere you look.

The proposed design includes new facilities in the area to the north, including shelters, bbqs and sand play areas for children. Looking to the south, the new wharf and boardwalk, together with an upgraded beach area, will offer open spaces for enjoying community celebrations and new places to hold weekend markets and events.

The Eastside Precinct Structure Plan is based on the exciting idea of reconnecting Bunbury's city centre to its waterfront, creating a welcoming arrival to the central business district and developing a vibrant area that locals and visitors alike will appreciate and enjoy for decades to come.
